EDIT MODE

MOCPlans.com was a site dedicated to selling Building Instructions for MOCs. An old idea but the first site I'm aware of to try and create a dedicated platform just for LEGO MOC instructions.

Unfortunately, after 5 years, the site owner Chase has decided to shut it down. From talking with him it was not an easy decision and he spent a lot of time and money trying to make it work out. In the end, we decided that the best solution for MOC designers and buyers would be to merge MOCPlans into Rebrickable.

So you can now buy and sell MOC Building Instructions directly on Rebrickable.

For example, there are many MOCs from M_longer, NKubate, RoscoPC, and many others. A new tab is shown in the Browse MOCs page to highlight the top selling Premium MOCs.

How it works

On the Building Instructions tab of a Premium MOC with hosted instructions, there will appear one or two payment buttons (depending on how the designer has it setup).

Click the PayPal or Stripe buttons to pay the designer directly.

You will get immediate access to the instructions which you can download via the new   > MOC Purchases page.

Submitting Premium MOCs

There is now a third hosting option when submitting MOCs Premium (Rebrickable Hosted):

The Self-Hosted option will remain, at least for now. The benefit of the Rebrickable-hosted option is that there is no up-front fee to submit your Premium MOCs. You only pay a small % commission of each sale made - so if you don't sell much, you are not out of pocket.

Differences to MOCPlans

As part of reproducing the necessary features, Rebrickable does some things a little differently to the way MOCPlans operated.

Fully automated submission process

Anyone can submit their MOCs for sale via Rebrickable's automated submission process. Premium MOC submissions require approval by a Rebrickable admin as always, but this is usually done within 24hrs and then everything is under the control of the MOC designer.

Instructions available offline

Buyers can download their purchased instructions for offline viewing, at any time, in the format the designer publishes them in. Designers may submit multiple files per MOC if required.

Buyers pay Designers

In the old model, buyers would pay the platform and then the platform would pay the designers at the end of each month.

Instead, buyers on Rebrickable will be sending money directly to the designers at the time of purchase. Depending on the payment method used, the Rebrickable commissions can be automatically deducted from the payment.

This lets designers get paid immediately, and reduces the fees charged by payment processors such as PayPal. The designer can also choose from several different currencies too.

Designers can choose to sell via Stripe and/or PayPal. To enable payment methods, go to your Settings page and use the new Payments tab. By default, all converted MOCPlans designers have PayPal enabled using their MOCPlans email addresses.

More details about how the fees/payments work is on this Help page.

Analytics and Reporting

Any MOC sales are integrated with your existing analytics page for easy analysis.

There is a new   > MOC Sales page for designers that lists every sale made.

Migration

What does this mean for anyone with existing purchases on MOCPlans?

I've tried to make sure all existing purchases are still accessible.

If you have purchased instructions on MOCPlans, they can still be accessed as PDF files via your   > MOC Purchases page. If you didn't already have a Rebrickable account, one has been created under your MOCPlans email address. You will need to reset your password before you can login.

Some MOCPlans MOCs have not been migrated at the request of their designers (e.g. Ingmar Spijkhoven's). In these cases, you should contact the designer to determine how to access the instructions you have purchased.

Different Email Addresses?

If you use a different email address on Rebrickable than what you had on MOCPlans, you can request a transfer of the purchases from one account to another by:

  • sending me an email at [email protected] FROM your Rebrickable email address so I can verify your identity
  • state your MOCPlans email address
  • include at least one Order# that you received from MOCPlans so I can verify the purchase

I am getting a lot of these requests, so please be patient I will get to you all in time. Providing me as much information as you can makes things easier for all of us.

UPDATE: I've added an email lookup tool to assist you in determining if you have any purchases migrated.

    To the Admins:
Hello. I'm interested in using this new feature but I have a couple of questions. I understand that when the MOC is submitted using the Rebrickable Hosted option the designer can not "link to external sites that are also selling the MOC". What does this exactly mean? Because, the thing is that I have my own store where I sell all my MOCs and it's also the site where I host my Free MOCs. Of course I will not publish a link in the page of the specific MOC hosted in Rebrickable, but my store is actually link as my Personal Site and it's easily accessible through any of the other MOCs. Thank for your time.

That's no problem. As you indicated, the restriction is only for specific MOCs being sold - if MOC-xxxx is hosted by Rebrickable (at no upfront cost to you) you can't then link it to ebay or somewhere else that then makes all the sales.

This is very, very bad news ! Don’t know how it comes to this situation : an innovative idea with a perfect implementation that became a reference. It is now merging with the worse example of a commercial web site. Sure the top builders will run away. Too bad !  However, thanks a lot Nathan for what you achieved !

Hmm, I'm going to assume you misinterpreted the direction things have happened. Mocplans is gone, Rebrickable is here to stay :)

Hi. How much time will it take to merge all MOCPLANS plans to rebrickable?
  • 1 month, 1 week ago lego_rules (993)
I had my account at MOC Plans under another email addy.  Can the instructions be merged or switched over to my current account which used a different email addy?
    • 1 month, 1 week ago noname1984 (239)
the same question for me, would be better if it could be merged?

Anyway why was there no information before? (Or I didnt get it?) to give us the chance to react.

Further questions, are the accounts already merged? I used the passwors forgotten functiom as I am not sure what the password was, sofar I didnt get any mail.

Just a question, i am a menber of mocpages, but no info from mocpages about my account and the payed instructions i own, so any clarification would be helpfull, the old mocpages prevented it from downloading so did i loose my instructions now???
Do i have to pay again for them???
    • 1 month, 1 week ago Nathan (63586) Site Admin ADMIN
Of course not. As stated, I have made them available for download wherever possible. For those I was not allowed to host, the designer will take care of you himself.

I don't see your email address in the mocplans data. Send me the email address you used there and I'll confirm.

iPhone 6S, iOS11: While I can browse the other parts of the website, I see I cannot open the links in the “Browse MOCS” page. Nothing happens when I tap.
Is the page still not active?
    • 1 month, 1 week ago Nathan (63586) Site Admin ADMIN
It's active. Sorry, I don't have an iPhone to test it on. It seems to work on my iPad ok.
      • 1 month, 1 week ago Lock_ (40)
Yes Nathan, I confirm that on iPad (with iOS11) it works.
I’ve no idea why on iPhone it doesn’t but it can be related to the different CSS (iPhone version of the site uses a different menu, due to the small size, maybe it interferes somehow).

Would you mind submitting this on the Bug Forum and I'll take a look at it when I get a chance.
      • 1 month, 1 week ago Turbo8702 (53143) MOC Designer
Yes, on my iPhone 4, (with like, iOS7 or something) the site doesn't have access to my settings page and is missing data that is available on my computer and iPad, like when I go to my "MOCs designed by Turbo8702" page, it doesn't show likes or followers. Also, if a comment has a lot of replies, the more recent ones are not visible; all I see is a partial picture of the designer's profile but no words. I was wondering if maybe you could change the site's layout on smaller devices so it shows stuff like that. Thank you!

I had no information of this side for some years.
In my opinion, this is a good decision, not to loose it but to merge it to this wonderful side.
